This epoxy floor was done on a new construction floor with moisture vapor emissions. After diamond grinding and shotblasting, a 100% solids epoxy moisture vapor barrier was installed as a basecoat. This crucial step ensures that epoxy flooring systems will not fail when a slab has moisture vapor issues present or if they arise in the future. Moisture issues may be caused by a lack of or damage to poly sheeting under a slab, poor drainage, being at or below grade, or numerous other causes. This is why moisture tests are a must in the epoxy flooring industry. After installing the moisture vapor barrier, a grey base coat of light grey 100% solids epoxy with a full coverage broadcast of galaxy flake blend from Torginol was used to crate both color and texture on the floor. We started this year with a bang. In addition to tile removal, this floor had moisture issues and big cracks. After the tile was removed, the remaining thin-set was removed by diamond grinding. A shotblaster was then used to not only provide a good surface profile, but to prep the cracks and low spots that a grinder cannot reach. Once prepped, the cracks were filled using a moisture tolerant, semi-rigid epoxy. Once cured, the entire floor was flooded with a 100% solids epoxy moisture vapor barrier. After curing overnight, a flaked epoxy floor system was installed using 100% solids epoxy, vinyl chips and a chemical and scratch-resistant polyurethane topcoat.
